There are times when you need a powerful drill/driver to handle a tough chore–and times when that same drill/driver just won’t maneuver itself to work. The 14.4-volt drill/driver has a solid, comfortable feel and features a DeWalt-built Series 3000 motor, dual range gearing, and an all-metal 5-5-5 planetary gear transmission. A keyless, 3/8-inch ratcheting chuck holds bits firmly in place, while an 18-position adjustable torque collar and electric brake provide more precise control. The high-torque, 7.2-volt screwdriver actually serves as a compact drill as well. A 1/4-inch hex drive QuickRelease chuck locks bits securely into place, while a variable speed trigger provides an operating range of 0-500 rpm. The screwdriver features a 16-position adjustable torque control, an all-metal planetary gear transmission and two handle positions, for reaching into tight spaces. What a combo-—the contractor’s new best friend. Here’s what we like about each of the workhorses in this deal. DeWalt’s revamped 18-volt compact drill/driver is perfect if you need power, but you don’t want to hoist a ton. Its 1/2-inch chuck grips beefy bits, the 18-position adjustable clutch provide the torque for whatever the job, powered by a high-performance motor. It’s all packaged in a truly lightweight, comfortable drill. The variable speed has a high and low range for any application, and the reverse switch is right above the curved trigger for easy access. We especially like the light weight, even more so because it doesn’t cost in the power department. Lots of pluses: on-board bit storage, two batteries, hard case. We think contractors will be pleased with this drill, especially after a long day. The 936 trim saw is power to go! We like that the blade’s on the left for a nice, clean sightline. The shoe is easy to adjust for bevel cuts, and like the drill, it’s lightweight, more compact than its colleagues and easy to handle, but not lacking for power. The recip saw’s got a great keyless blade-change mechanism that gets the old blade out and the new one in, in just seconds. The shoe pivots nicely and has a great open top for maximum visibility, a variable-speed trigger for blade control, and an electric brake. The grips feel good and offer fantastic control. Because of that and its comparative light weight (but no sacrifice in the power department), if you’ve got to work above your head, this is the tool for you. Here’s a great collection of DeWalt tools at a really amazing price and they all use the same 18-volt batteries. The 1/2-inch adjustable clutch drill/driver/hammer drill’s high-torque motor delivers 450 inch/pounds of torque for drilling with large bits and driving large-shank screws with no worries of lock-up because the third speed is 38 percent faster, with a range of 0 to 2,000 rpm. The chuck’s carbide jaws won’t let go of even the smallest bit. The DW938 reciprocating saw has nice ergonomics–good balance, a comfortable grip, and it’s not unwieldy, even with the battery attached. We particularly like the keyless blade clamp that lets you change blades without touching the blade or reciprocating shaft. The 6-1/2-inch circular saw is one of favorites for its light weight, power and ease. You can see the blade on the left side, so you’ve got great cutting-line visibility. Want to bevel? No problem. And it’s even got a rip fence. The impact driver is only 6-1/2 inches long, but it delivers 1,600 in-lbs of max torque; its heavy-duty impacting mechanism directs torque to the fastener without kickback. Its fits into places other impact drivers can’t and is what you need for automotive work, farm machinery or anywhere else you need super torque. The flex-neck flashlight’s wide-angle beam is brighter than a traditional flashlight, and you’ll find all kinds of uses for it. A nice touch we appreciate is the spare Xenon bulb, so you’ll never be in the dark. All together, quite a neat deal.–Kris Jensen-Van Heste
